DC Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE)

SUSTAINABILITY OPINION POLLING RESEARCH

In August and September 2017, CRP conducted six focus groups and a random telephone survey of 907 residents of the District of Columbia for the Urban Sustainability Administration, within the District’s Department of Energy and Environment (DOEE).  The research, which was performed to update the District’s Sustainability Plan, explored and assessed sustainability-related issues, interests, and priorities of District of Columbia residents and businesses.  Through this combined qualitative and quantitative research inquiry, DC businesses and residents offered passionate and thoughtful insights on ways in which DOEE can: (1) include all constituents in an expanded and more broad-based level of participation in sustainability activities; and (2) meet these stakeholders where they are in the sustainability practice continuum. Moreover, CRP offered recommendations to DOEE aimed at strengthening its community engagement initiative around sustainability and enhancing the District of Columbia’s emerging position as a national leader in sustainability.
